Last Update: October 23, 2009
We are very excited to announce the addition of an electronic medical records system to our office. This system will provide numerous benefits to both our patients and our staff. You will notice a number of changes in the flow of the office over the next few months. However, please be assured that the standard of care to which you have become accustomed will only improve. The goal of this new system is to elevate that standard to new levels. The noticeable differences during your visit will include:
A staff member will be entering all of your demographic and insurance information into the new computer system. This will mean that you will be completing an update to your demographic information and providing your insurance card and picture identification.
Your vital signs (height, weight, temperature, etc.) and symptoms will be entered by our nursing staff via a computer in the patient room. Your provider will also be completing your progress note on the computer.
Your prescription will be generated via the computer and, when possible, faxed directly to your pharmacy. This will reduce your wait time at the pharmacy to have your prescription filled.
You may be given patient education handouts. These will be given, when appropriate, with information about a specific symptom or disease. You should find this very useful.
Eventually, we will make our clinic paperless so our office functions more efficiently. This will allow you to be a part of a new wave in healthcare. Be aware that none of your information will be in any way accessible from the Internet or at our clinic by unauthorized individuals. This system is very secure, and we would never jeopardize the privacy of your medical record. You may be wondering what benefits these changes will offer you. Here are a few examples:
Continuity of care...
Your chart will always be up-to-date, legible and accessible. Your chart will always be at our fingertips and you should experience no delays attributed to having to locate your chart.
Timesaving...
Refills and referrals are better processed when all of the information is easily accessible.
Safety...
Many studies have proven that the use of electronic medical records improves safety due to features such as automatic allergy and drug-to-drug interaction alerts. Additionally, better organization and legibility of the chart in general lend to easier recognition of chronic medications and medical problems.
Improved outcomes...
Built in prompts such as up-to-date disease management plans, follow up lab or xray alerts and preventive care alerts assist with managing patient care.
Please feel free to ask us any questions so you fully understand all the changes. The company we purchased the software from, e-MDs, also has a website that may help with any question. The web address is

We are very excited about the opportunities that this system will provide to both our office and our patients.
